Agartala: The District and Session Judge of West Tripura convicted a brick kiln worker hailing from Jharkhand for killing his co-worker two years ago and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment.

After a long hearing, the court on Thursday sentenced the accused, Banddhan Jhara (33) to 10 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5000, and if the accused was unable to pay the fine amount, then additional imprisonment for two more months.

The report said on the night of November 14, 2021, during a party in the brick industries at Nowabadi near Agartala, convicted Banddhan Jhara of Jharkhand quarrelled with one of his colleagues and kiln labourer Johan Tapno and suddenly assaulted him badly.

After the incident, injured Johan Tapno was shifted to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries due to his critical head injuries two days after the incident.

Later, police arrested the accused and submitted a charge sheet under Section 302 of the IPC.
