Imphal: As a part of the “Save Chandranadi (Lilah-khong) campaign,” Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba along with members of the Nature Club, Haoreibi and Haoreibi Apunba Lup, carried out an assessment of the Chandranadi river on Saturday.

Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba expressed his displeasure over the pathetic condition of the river. He appealed to the communities settling along the river to stop encroaching and also not dump domestic waste and garbage into the river. He also mentioned the necessity of taking immediate steps to save the historic river.
On the sidelines of the survey, talking to the spectators of the ongoing 4th Chandranadi Trophy football tournament at Haoreibi Kangjeibung, he assured them that he would take up the issue of the Chandranadi River with concerned authorities in order to preserve the river and its glory.

It may be mentioned here that Nature Club Haoreibi has been campaigning to save the river. Earlier, a memorandum was submitted to Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba. The assessment was carried out as a gesture of his concern over the matter and follow-up of the memorandum.
