Imphal: Over 4747 students from Class I to Class XII in Manipur have been displaced due to the ongoing violence. The state government is providing all required materials, including new uniforms, sports materials, textbooks, pencils, and pens, said Manipur Education Th Basanta Singh here on Saturday.

Speaking to mediapersons, the minister said since the displaced students are not in possession of their textbooks, the same will be made available to all of them by the government. Moreover, volunteer teachers will be deputed to the relief camps to organise coaching classes to make up for the learning losses of the displaced students, the minister added.

Basanta said transfer and admission of the displaced students in classes IX, X, XI, and XII to the schools as per their choice, provided seats are available in the particular schools, will be allowed. If seats are not available in the selected schools, arrangements will be made in other nearby schools.

All arrangements will also be made for the admission of students from other classes at their desired schools, provided seats are available. If seats are not available in the selected schools, arrangements will be made in other nearby schools, the minister said.

The Minister highlighted, however, that many schools and educational institutions are occupied by the security forces. Therefore, with due consultation with the stakeholders and officials, a proper mechanism will ensure it functions smoothly.

The minister also hinted that the present Summer holiday declared by the government will likely be extended.
