Imphal: The present crisis in Manipur can be resolved only through dialogue and negotiation by sitting across the table, Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam said, citing that every war the world has seen, never ended with the total annihilation of one opponent by the other.

Dr Bimol argued that the crisis was just a manifestation of a long historical mistrust among communities in Manipur. However, it was further fueled by a lot of other ‘complicated factors’, he added, without identifying what those ‘factors’ are.

Asserting that such problems had never occurred in the country, Angomcha Bimol, who is also contesting as a Congress candidate from the 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency, said that this violence could be done away a long time back.

“The country witnesses sectarian violence every now and then. All those incidents could be ended within a few days. Moreover, India is a country that could finish this (Manipur) crisis within days but it wasn’t done so intentionally,” Dr Bimol maintained.

He said if we want to bring peace, we need to expose such attitudes of the government of India. At the same time, we need to explore and initiate dialogue between communities taking into account their immediate concerns.

The violence occurred due to the complete failure of governance by the ruling government, he asserted.
