One more baby succumbs to Covid in Meghalaya

The State's cumulative count also climbed up to 94,668 with 96 people testing positive for Covid19

Shillong: For the second consecutive day, a three-month-old baby boy and a 73-year-old woman succumbed to Covid19 in Meghalaya on Friday, taking the number of fatalities to 1,599, health officials said.

The State’s cumulative count also climbed up to 94,668 with 96 people testing positive for Covid19, taking the number of people currently infected with the virus in the State to 461, while 30 more people have also recovered from the viral infection, mounting the number of recoveries to 92,608 on Friday, as per government statistics.

Health officials said that a three-month-old baby boy, who had tested positive for Covid19 and suffering from Encephalitis died at Maternity and Child hospital in Tura, the district headquarters of West Garo Hills and a 73-year-old woman, who had a history of diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular illness, and tested positive for the viral infection died at North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) hospital here.

Of the total new cases registered during the last 24 hours on Friday, West Garo Hills, including Tura reported the maximum number of 47 new cases with the district accounting for 235 active cases, the highest in the state, 28 in East Khasi Hills district, five in South Garo Hills district, four in Ri-Bhoi district, three each in West Jaintia Hills district and East Garo Hills district, two each in Eastern West Khasi Hills district, West Khasi Hills district and South West Garo Hills district.

The number of active Covid19 cases also increased to 123 in the East Khasi Hills district, which includes the state capital Shillong.

Forty-six Covid19 infected patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals in the state, the health official said, adding that one out of the total 12 districts had no active Covid19 case as of date.

Meanwhile, according to the National Health Mission record, 32,139 health care workers have received the first dose of the Covid19 vaccine, 29,512 have been administered with the second dose and 10,162 have taken the third precaution dose, while 97,029 front-line workers have been vaccinated with the first dose, 85,729 have received the second dose and 29,865 have got the precaution shot, even as 13,03,731 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose, 9,52,536 have been fully vaccinated with the second dose and 11,887 citizens have taken the booster dose across the state till Friday.
