Ambassa (Tripura): In a shocking and unwanted happening for the party in power in the state, BJP, the office bearers the Chairperson and the Vice-Chairperson lost the floor test against the no-trust motion brought into by the same party members in the northern Tripura district of Dhalai today.

The incident happened in Durgachowmuhani Panchayat Samiti having not a single opposition member in the 13 member body. Almost months ago, 8 out of the 13 members brought no-trust motion against the incumbent Chairperson Sampa Das and Vice-Chairperson Tapas Paul, both nominated by Minister Manoj Kanti Deb.

The party immediately stepped in to resolve the deadlock. Series of meetings were held convened by the state leadership of BJP. But the rebel members stuck to their position. And ultimately the floor test was conducted today.

On that occasion, BJP State leaders Tinku Roy and Balai Goswami were present along with the Minister Manoj Kanti Deb himself. The rebel members were served with party whip to not to vote for the no trust motion.

However, the rebel members went against the motion and both the Chairperson and the Vice-Chairperson lost the test with a 8-5 result against them. The party leadership provided one month to the rebel members to change their decision failing which the party would go on with its decision.

According to some of the experts, as per the provisions of the Act in force in the state, the whip defying members might even lose their membership if they did not respond to the party decision. And then the interim election would turn inevitable. Whatever might be the consequence, BJP received a major jolt only years ago from the Assembly election in 2023.
