Imphal: Life was completely affected in Manipur here on Saturday as people protested the failure of the government to convene a session of the Manipur Assembly.

A public rally attended by lakhs of people on July 29 last had asked the government to call a special session of the Assembly by Aug 5.

All educational institutions, business establishments were closed down. 

The protestors burnt effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his alleged silence and inaction for the last three months.

Women’s bodies were also condemned for using electric current in barbed wires by security personnel to control the mob.

Large numbers of women who touched the wire in the Bishnupur district were undergoing treatment, the protestors said.

Meanwhile, the state Cabinet has decided to call a special session of the Assembly on Aug 21 next.
