Imphal: Mt Koubru being in the reserved forest area, no activities will be allowed unless it is permissible under the Indian Forest Act, 1972, said Forest, Environment & Climate Change Minister Awangbow Newmai.
In a statement, the Minister said a meeting was held on 20 April 2021 between representative of COPPK (Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mount Koubru) and Letpao Haokip, Minister, YAS & Water Resource and himself (Awangow Newmai) regarding allegation that worshipers are not allowed to go to Mt Koubru. During the meeting, an understanding was arrived that anyone who wishes to go to Koubru for worship shall not be stopped by whosoever.
Stating that Mt Koubru is considered as a sacred mountain by all communities, Newmai, however, lamented that there is a massive deforestation at Mt Kbouru, which is very unfortunate. The Forest department, hence, is taking up plantation programme at Koubru, he added.
The Forest Minister further appealed to the public not to do anything which will hurt the sentiment of the people or disturb the peace and communal harmony in connection with Mt Koubru.
