Nine inmates escape from Nagaland’s Mon dist jail

According to official sources, the jailbreak happened at the prison’s Ward early on Saturday with the escapees including seven under-trials and two convicted for theft and murder.

Kohima: Nine inmates of the Mon District Jail of Nagaland have escaped by scaling its walls, official sources said on Sunday.

According to official sources, the jailbreak happened at the prison’s Ward early on Saturday with the escapees including seven under-trials and two convicted for theft and murder.

They broke the ward’s iron door and handcuff lock chain and used their blankets to scale the jail’s wall at around 1 AM. The particular lockup had 29 inmates, out of whom nine escaped when the 20 others were asleep. 

Sources said a case has been registered and investigation was on to apprehend the escapees. 

The police have also issued a lookout notice, All agencies have been alerted and a manhunt was on.
