Need to motivate young generation to achieve big goals: CM Biren

The Manipur Chief Minister stated this at the re-launching function of Regular Coaching Classes (RCC) of various sports disciplines under Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Department at Langjing Achouba, Imphal West Sunday.

Imphal: Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the government is extending every possible support to promote sports culture and sportspersons in the state. This was stated by him at the re-launching function of Regular Coaching Classes (RCC) of various sports disciplines under Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) Department at Langjing Achouba, Imphal West Sunday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the government is providing financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh each to around 15 sporting clubs to support their sporting activities and ease the financial hardships faced by the clubs. The government is also providing Rs 1 crore to football clubs such as NEROCA and TRAU who are participating in the I-League, he added.

 N Biren Singh maintained that we need to inspire and motivate our young generation to dream and achieve big goals. He also appreciated the parents and guardians for their unconditional support and encouragement to their wards to become successful sportspersons. Due credit must be given to the coaches and teachers, he added.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister directed the YAS officials to provide drinking water and edible items to the aspiring sportspersons or participants, every day during the RCC. The government would provide the necessary budget for providing eatables for the participants, he added.

To support the needy and poor aspiring sportspersons of the State, he said that the government would invite the National and Multinational Companies to provide assistance towards nurturing the young sportspersons of the state through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Padmashri awardee and renowned footballer, Oinam Bembem Devi would be the Brand Ambassador of the initiative, he added.

During the function, Chief Minister also felicitated Padmashri Awardee Oinam Bembem Devi.

It may be mentioned that the Regular Coaching Classes(RCC) is a flagship program of the YAS Department that nurtures sportspersons in over 25 Sports disciplines and has been conducted since 2002.

Altogether around 1200 students have registered for the football discipline under RCC.

Minister for YAS Letpao Haokip, Minister for Education S Rajen Singh, Commissioner (YAS) Bobby Waikhom, Director (YAS) T. Phulen Meitei, Padmashri Awardee Oinam Bembem Devi and others were present during the function.
