Imphal: Expressing concern about the present status of Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed to all the journalist community in the state to analyse the present status of Manipuri society, and suggest ways for ensuring socio-economic and cultural security for the future generation.
He said that we’re like a community with no future. This is the time we need to think over and discuss what status we’re in today.
The chief minister was speaking as chief guest at the celebration of the 47th foundation day of Manipur Press Club at its premises at Majorkhul in Imphal on Thursday. The function was organised by the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU).

Biren also assured facility and welfare for the journalists and press fraternity in the state.
Wangkhemcha Shamjai, AMWJU president, narrated how media persons in the state work under great difficulties with their meagre salaries. The veteran journalist also assured that the media body in time in the coming days will take up initiatives to make sure that the sixth Wage Board for working journalists complied with in the state.

Many journalists have been killed with no justice so far, he informed.
The programme was also attended by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba and Editor’s Guild Manipur president Khogendra Khomdram as guests of honour.
As a part of the programme, former Manipur Press Club secretaries and founding members of AMWJU were felicitated.
