Mumbai: Maharashtra cabinet minister and NCP leader Nawab Malik have contested allegations made against him in a defamation suit filed by the father of NCB Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede- Dhyandev Wankhede.

In his reply Nawab Malik said Dhyandev Wankhede has ”failed to demonstrate as to how the statements were defamatory, slanderous or libellous”, he alleged that the defamation suit is ”nothing but an attempt to cover up the illegalities committed” by his son.

The suit filed by Dhyandev Wankhede in the Bombay High Court seeks Rs 1.25 crores in damages from the mister.

The NCP leader maintained that the plea was not sustainable as the litigant cannot file a representative suit on behalf of his family members without the permission of the court.

Malik filed the reply affidavit as he was directed to do so by a single-judge vacation bench of Justice Madhav J Jamdar on Monday.

In October, Malik had shared a birth certificate, allegedly of Sameer Wankhede, stating that his father is one Dawood Wankhede hence stating that he was not entitled to the reservation. Sameer then issued a statement clarifying that his father is Hindu while his mother was Muslim. The plea claimed that Malik’s allegations against Sameer Wankhede started after the former’s son-in-law, Sameer Khan, was arrested by the NCB in January on charges of trading contraband.
