Chandel: Demonstrating its unwavering commitment to community welfare and preventive healthcare, Assam Rifles organised a comprehensive Myopia Awareness and Screening Camp at Assam Rifles Public School, Pallel Garrison, in the Chandel district of Manipur. The initiative was conducted in collaboration with Ibotombi Eye Care, Canchipur, located in the Imphal West district.

The camp was held to commemorate the 48th Foundation Day of the ENTOD (Ear, Nose, Throat, and Ophthalmic Drugs) Foundation. This foundation was established to honour the legacy of its founder, the late Mr G. V. Masurkar, who pioneered significant advancements in specialised eye, ear, and throat care. By aligning with this milestone, the initiative sought to extend vital ophthalmic expertise to the local community, emphasising the importance of early detection and preventive eye health practices.

During the event, medical professionals from the force and Ibotombi Eye Care engaged with 143 participants, comprising 108 students, 20 teachers, and 15 family members. The sessions focused on the rising prevalence of myopia in children and the critical need for adopting healthy visual habits, such as reducing excessive screen exposure and prioritising regular eye check-ups. Participants requiring specialised ophthalmic attention received individual counselling and professional medical guidance.

This welfare-oriented programme was warmly received by school authorities and parents, highlighting the successful synergy between security forces and local healthcare partners in fostering the holistic development of children and families within the region.
