Narcotics worth Rs 15 lakh seized in Nagaland

Kohima: Kohima Police personnel have recovered 186 grams of suspected heroin worth an estimated Rs15 lakh from an abandoned vehicle at Khuzama Inter-State Police check gate, an official release said on Sunday.

The narcotics were found on Saturday while the cops were conducting routine checking of vehicles.

According to a Kohima Police release, the policemen noticed a vehicle without registration number, suspiciously parked on the highway. The vehicle was then thoroughly inspected and plastic soap cases were found concealed in a modified compartment of the vehicle. 

Altogether, 15 soap cases containing suspected heroin powder weighing 186 gms were recovered and seized from the said vehicle. The Value of the seized suspected drugs is estimated to be around Rs.15 Lakh in the national market.

The release said that it is presumed that the driver might have abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene, seeing the ongoing checking of the vehicles by the police personnel. 

Efforts were being made to ascertain the identity of the driver as well as the registered owner of the vehicle and in this connection, a case under NDPS Act has been registered for further investigation, it said.
