Nagaland NDPP nominee elected unopposed in bypoll

Kohima: Ruling Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) of Nagaland nominee and consensus candidate of United Democratic Alliance S. Keoshu Yimchunger was declared elected unopposed from the Shamator-Chessore Assembly Constituency under Tuensang district of Nagaland Assembly byelection.

According to Nagaland Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland, V. Shashank Shekhar said that Keoshu was the only candidate to file nomination for the by-election, which was scheduled for October 30 next and was, therefore, declared elected uncontested yesterday on the Last Date for Withdrawal of candidature.

The Shamator-Chessore Assembly constituency fell vacant following the death of sitting MLA Toshi Wungtung on July 1 the last following to post-Covid problem, for which the Election Commission of India declared the byelection.

With the election of Keoshu Yimchunger, the party position of the NDPP rose to 21, while Naga Peoples Front has 25 members, BJP has 12 members and two independent members.
