Kohima: Following the detection of an epidemic of African Swine Fever (ASF) the Kiphire District Administration of Nagaland has strictly prohibited the transportation of pigs, wild boar and pork within the district with immediate effect, until further order and called upon the people of Kiphire district to be vigilant on the outbreak of the disease.
An order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Kiphire T Wati Aier has also prohibited butchering of pig, wild boar and pork for consumption or sale until further orders. He has ordered that any death of pigs in any village or town be reported to the nearest veterinary health centre without fail.
He also notified that the disease was highly contagious with 100 per mortality and there was no treatment for the disease.
The order stated that to prevent further spread of the disease and control the outbreak, the Deputy Commissioner cautioned that non-adherence to the order by any individual, group or business would be punishable under the Epidemic Disease Act 1897.
