Kohima: The Core Committee on the Naga political issue will hold a special session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly on December 20 to discuss the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, in Nagaland.
It held an emergency meeting in Kohima yesterday and discussed the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958.
According to official sources, the Core Committee of the Parliamentary Committee on Naga Political issue headed by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio fixed the tentative date for the Special Assembly Session as December 20, which was given assent by the Nagaland Governor for convening the Special Assembly Session. The decision also comes against the backdrop of the Nagaland Cabinet Ministers to urge the Government of India to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 from Nagaland.
It may be mentioned that several organizations had also appealed to the state government to convene a Special Assembly Session to pass a resolution for repealing the draconian law. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, attending the funeral service for the killing victims spoke at the mass funeral service in Mon town on December 6, said that the Nagaland Government is urging from time to time to Central Government to repeal the AFSPA from Nagaland.
