My politics is based on humanity, development, says Manipur CM

Speaking at a felicitation programme in his name by Tangkhul civil society organisations, in Ukhrul district headquarters, Biren Singh said the state can be developed only when there is a healthy relationship between the hill and valley people.

Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh Tuesday said that his politics has always been based on humanity and development and that his government has been giving focus on all-round development including supplying of adequate drinking water to every household in the state.

Speaking at a felicitation programme in his name by Tangkhul civil society organisations, in Ukhrul district headquarters, Biren Singh said the state can be developed only when there is a healthy relationship between the hill and valley people.  

Informing that his government has taken up Water Supply Scheme with a project cost of around Rs 3000 crore funded by New Development Bank, under the Jal Jeevan Mission-Har Ghar Jal scheme, the Chief Minister said that project for Ukhrul district had been included in Phase-2 with a total cost of Rs 95 crore. Out of which, Rs 22 crore would be for proper Ukhrul only, he added. 

The Chief Minister also announced that the State government had proposed two ropeway projects: Shiroy-Ukhrul-Mahadeva Ropeway and Loktak Ropeway under Parvat Mala scheme. 

Biren informed that the construction of Amusement Park in Ukhrul would be completed soon as a part of the government’s 100 Action Points for First 100 Days programme. 

Mentioning that the State government had recently launched the Sub Divisional Monitoring Mission to ensure development at the grass root level, the Chief Minister appealed to the public to cooperate with government officials in carrying out their work efficiently. 

Lauding the Civil Society Organisations of the district for their response to uproot poppy plantations, he stated that the government would send officials of concerned departments to carry out a survey and choke out alternative arrangements for the livelihood of poppy cultivators.

Minister L. Susindro Meitei, delivering his speech, sought the support of people to bring further development to the district. The Minister stressed the need to increase the number of homestays in Ukhrul District to accommodate visitors and tourists during the Shiroy festival.

During the prgoramme, the Tangkhul Civil Society Organisations also submitted memorandums to the Chief Minister in which the latter assured to look into the matter and take up necessary actions. The Chief Minister also interacted with representatives of various Civil Society Organisations during his visit.

Cultural dance and songs were also presented by different troupes during the felicitation.

Minister Khasim Vashum, Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, MLA Phungyar AC K. Leishiyo, MLA Ukhrul AC Ram Muivah, President, TNL David K Shimray, and leaders of Civil Society Organisations among others were also present at the felicitation programme.

Earlier, upon his arrival N Biren Singh was felicitated by Tangkhul Civil Society Organisations at TNL Ground.
