MOU between Sikkim and UT J& K

Governor Ganga Prasad described the agreement as opening new opportunities for farmers of the state.

Gangtok: A Memorandum of Understanding, has been signed between Sikkim and Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, at the Civil Secretariate, Srinagar on Wednesday.

The agreement was signed by Horticulture Department Sikkim, Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare, Department Government of J& K and Sikkim University, in the presence of Governor Ganga Prasad, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union territory of J&K, Minister of Agriculture Lok Nath Sharma, Vice-Chancellor Prof Avinash Khare, Sikkim University, Chief Secretary Dr. A K Mehta, J& K, and his Departmental heads, with officers representing Sikkim Government.

Governor Ganga Prasad described the agreement as opening new opportunities for farmers of the state. He also made it a point to put on record the strong political will and commitment of the Chief Minister of Sikkim, PS Tamang, to promote the cultivation of Saffron in the State. He thanked J&K LG Manoj Sinha.

LG Manoj Sinha, hailed the signing of the agreement, a historic event during the Aajadi ka Amrit Mahotsav. He said it would be beneficial to both sides, for Organic Farming and Kesar (Saffron) cultivation.

Earlier, Governor G Prasad with a delegation from Sikkim visited an apple farm in Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Science and Technology, Srinagar. The Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST, welcoming the Governor and others from Sikkim, presented mementos.
