Month-long National Road Safety observation launched in Imphal East

Imphal:  Observing the National Road Safety Month, a walkathon and two-wheelers rally was organized by District Administration Imphal East District in co-ordination with Superintendent of Police and District Transport Imphal East District on the theme “Sadak Suraksha-Jeevan Raksha” from City Convention Centre, Konung Mamang to DC Complex, Porompat on Wednesday. 

The event was flagged off at City Convention Centre, Konung Mamang by Khumanthem Diana Devi, Deputy Commissioner, Imphal East in the presence of Jogeshchandra Haobijam, Superintendant of Police, Imphal East and culminated at Panchayat Bhavan, DC Office Complex, Porompat.

Addressing the participants at Panchayat Bhavan, Porompat, Diana highlighted the importance of Road Safety, why it is being organized as a month-long event which was earlier celebrated as a week-long programme. The DC further appealed to all the members present to abide by the traffic rules, and stressed the importance of using helmets and seat belts which could save lives as accidents are not pre-informed incidents. She appealed to all, particularly youngsters, school and college goers not to be carried away by the thrills of speed. Careful driving is the key to prevention from untoward incidents of road accidents. 

Two traffic police personnel namely Wahengbam Geetchandra Meetei, constable, and Elangbam Bike Singh, VDF were awarded Certificate of Commendation and Memento in recognition for their sincerity in traffic duties. 

School Children of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary Academy, CC Higher Secondary School, Lamlong Higher Secondary School, Police Personnel, Employees of Various offices situated in Imphal East, and District Level officers participated in the event.
