Aizawl: Mizoram Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia participated in the conference of states/UT’s Ministers on Jal Jeevan Mission in the presence of Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister, Jal Shakti, Rattan Lal Kataria through Video Conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister Tawnluia highlighted that huge financial support had already been provided to Mizoram from the Govt. of India, at the same time, as Minister-in-Charge of Water Supply in the State, he mentioned that he had tried his best to push for the release of the state matching share with the continued support of the Chief Minister, in spite of State’s financial problems, so as to ensure smooth implementation of the JJM Program.

In the conference, he drew the attention of the  Ministry on two important issues in the implementation of JJM in Mizoram. The first being the state is not getting the full amount of funds required as per actual project estimates. Second, considering Mizoram’s topographical location and long-distance water sources, and the necessity of importing all construction materials, the project cost are comparatively very high. He said that during the coming FY of 2021-22, the total project cost comes to Rs. 1300 crores whereas the tentative allocation of fund from the ministry is likely to be Rs198.25 Crore (2.5 times of Rs 79.30 Crore) which is insufficient for full completion of the projects. He sought the minister’s personal attention on this.
