Minister Rajen appeals for participation in Fish Fair, 2021

Stating that the call for non-participation in the festival by the JAC of Fishery Societies’ is unfortunate, he appealed to the members of the fishery societies to cooperate with the government and join the Fish fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition, 2021.

Imphal: Fishery minister S Rajen Singh has appealed to the JAC of the Fisheries Cooperative Society, Manipur, not to stay away from Fish fair-cum-Fish Crop Competition, 2021.

Minister was speaking to the media during a press briefing held at the conference hall of the minister at old secretariat Imphal, today. He said that the schedule of this year’s fish festival and the place has been already announced recently. It will be organised at Mapal Kangjeibung on the western side of Johnstone Higher Secondary School on November 5, 2021.

In the meantime, there have been reports in local dailies regarding the non-participation of some fishery societies of the state in the fish fair 2021, because of non-payment of National Cooperative Development Society, NCDC subsidies. Clarifying to the report minister Rajen informed that beneficiaries of fishery societies under NCDC should approach the Manipur Cooperative Society as the matter is not related to the fishery department.   

Minister also maintained that Local Sareng (Wallago attu) will also feature during the festival. He said that Ningol Chakouba is one of the biggest festivals in the state. A fish fair is also being organised as a part of this festival. Joint Secretary Fishery, Neeta Arambam, Director, Fishery department, H Balkrishna Singh, and cooperative officers of fishery department also attended the occasion.
