Imphal: Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh held a Review Meeting, Thursday evening, on the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme in the state through Video Conference from his office chamber at New Secretariat.
Minister Biswajit said that the people are facing many difficulties due to the present pandemic and that proper implementation of the MGNREGS will provide some relief to them.
He further asked the concerned DPCs and other officials for proper and timely utilisation of the Rs 1,65,50,75,000, sanctioned by the Finance Department as the last instalment of the Rs. 485,50,75,000 which was released by the Centre as its share and the Rs. 53,94,53,000 State share to clear liabilities for 2021. Proper and timely utilisation of this amount would provide some relief to the general public from the hardships they are facing due to the present COVID-19 pandemic.
He continued that the Central Ministry has approved 49 man-days for the year 2021-22 and further requested the DPCs to achieve the said man-days by September-end, so that we can demand for more man-days during the Labour budget review meeting which is likely to be held in October. He said that the activities under MGNREGS have also been included in the permitted activities of the Home Department.
During the conference, the district administrations also highlighted issues that they are facing in meeting the State target.
Bsiwajit also appealed to all who are eligible to take the COVID vaccine which is being provided free of cost under the leadership of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, so that we can all jointly fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
The meeting was attended by Addl. Chief Secretary RD&PR MH Khan Deputy Commissioners, DPCs (MGNREGS), Deputy Secretary RD&PR Lalrobul Fimate, among others.
