Puducherry: Education Minister A Namassivayam on Friday said the mid-day meal will be served to the students on the first day of reopening of schools next Monday.
Namasivayam told newspersons, after visiting the centralized kitchen at Lawspet, that Chief Minister N Rangaswamy had already announced that the students will be served a mid-day meal on the opening day of reopening the schools.
It may be noted that the previous Congress-DMK government handed over the task of providing a mide-day meal to “Akshaya Patra” a Bengaluru based institution.
Due to the Covid pandemic and elections in the institution, work has not been started. However, the government had handed over the centralized kitchen at Lawspet to the Institution and they started the construction of a modern kitchen there.
Namasivayam said 90 per cent of the construction work of the modern kitchen is over and the mid-day meal to all the students would be supplied from the Lawspet centralized kitchen.
The Minister was briefed on the functioning of the kitchen and he also tasted the food prepared in it.
He said, since it will take a week to set up a separate transformer for the centralized kitchen, a generator would be used for the time being.
