Meghalaya seeks funds for health infrastructure

Shillong: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek on Monday met Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in Delhi and briefed him on the Covid situation in the state and sought more central funds for further strengthening health infrastructure in the state.
Hek also raised the issue relating to “undue delay on the appointment of a permanent Director and Board Director of Governing Body of North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong.

He suggested to the Union Health Minister to increase the number of medical seats and to appoint more medical specialist in NEIGRIHMS hospital in the best interest of the people of Meghalaya and the other North Eastern states.

The Union Health Minister has assured the Health
minister to provide adequate funds to the State and to sort out the delay in the appointment of a permanent Director and Board Members of Governing Body of NEIGRIHMS at the earliest, sources said.

Hek also met Union Minister for AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal and submitted a proposal for setting up of the directorate of AYUSH in Meghalaya.
The financial implication is over Rs 3 crores, including creation of posts at District hospitals (DHs) PHCs and CHCs
Hek also called on Union Minister for Labour, Employment and Petroleum, Rameshwar Teli, who assured to sanction a 50-bedded ESIC hospital in Shillong.
