Shillong: The Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL), has decided to resort to load shedding all over the state from April 24, midnight.
The decision to resort to load shedding was taken in a meeting held on April 22 chaired by the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma with the power department, an MeECL notification issued on Friday stated.
As per the notification, Garo Hills and Ri-Bhoi will go for load shedding from 12 midnight to 3 am, Khasi Hills including Shillong from3 am to 6 am, Jaintia Public from 6 am to 9 am, Lum Shnong industries from 9 am to 4 pm and Byrnihat industries from 2 pm to midnight.
The load shedding will remain in place till further orders from the state government, the notification stated.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday had hinted that the state will have to undergo load shedding.
“We realise that if we were to rationalise the power usage, then maybe throughout the year. we could do a much more balancing act. Rather than having 8-9 hours of load shedding, it’s better that we have standard 1 – 2 hour,” Sangma said.
