Meghalaya reports 153 new Covid-19 positive cases, one dies

With the number of COVID-19 cases across Meghalaya increasing, Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Sampath Kumar has informed that the State government has amended the protocols for entry points.

Shillong: Meghalaya on Sunday recorded one more COVID-19 related death in the East Khasi Hills district taking the fatality count due to the viral disease to 153 in the State, even as 73 new positive cases took the number of active cases in the State to 680.

With the number of COVID-19 cases across Meghalaya increasing, Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare, Sampath Kumar has informed that the State government has amended the protocols for entry points.

As per the revised protocols, persons entering Meghalaya from any State or Union

Territory, possessing a valid final certificate of vaccination shall be exempted from testing at the entry point.

“However, this shall not be applicable to persons coming from Maharashtra, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Any person coming from these five states shall be required to produce a negative RT-PCR/TruNat/CBNAAT report tested at a recognized laboratory within 72 hours of their arrival at the entry point,” the revised protocol specified.

Meanwhile, Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said then new COVID-19 cases detected today included 36 in East Khasi Hills district, 12 each in Ri-Bhoi district and West Jaintia Hills district, five in West Garo Hills district, three in West Khasi Hills district, two in East Jaintia Hills district and one in East Garo Hills district.

He said the deceased was identified as Mebilda Bareh, (74) in East Khasi Hills Mawlai

With 470 active COVID-19 cases, the East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital

Shillong is the most affected district, followed by West Jaintia Hills district with 109 active

cases and Ri-Bhoi district with 45 active cases.

Dr. War said the State also recorded 41 more recoveries from the viral infection, surging the number of recovered cases up to 14, 038.

“The new recoveries from Covid-19 recorded today included 40 in East Khasi Hills and one

in East Jaintia Hills,” the health official said.

So far Meghalaya has registered 14, 871 confirmed Covid-19 cases.

On the other hand, 1, 05, 833 persons from outside have entered Meghalaya since the onset of the pandemic till date, official data revealed, even as there were 19 micro containment zones across State, where Covid-19 positive cases have been detected.

Meanwhile, as per data released by the directorate of health services, as on Sunday

evening, 22, 845 health care workers received the first dose of the Covishield vaccine,

16, 705 received the second dose, 34, 958 frontline workers got the first shot of the

vaccine, 22, 498 completed the vaccination course with the second shot, while 68, 748 from among the general public were inoculated with the first dose and 6, 443 have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with the second dose across the State.
