Meghalaya records three COVID-19 deaths, 20 new cases

Shillong: Meghalaya on Saturday recorded three deaths due to Covid-19 related complications, that of persons who were not vaccinated against the virus, increasing the number of fatalities to 1471 and 20 new cases of infection, which added up to 308 active cases, health officials said.

The state also reported 44 more cases of recovery from the viral infection, which surged the number of recovered cases to 82635 on Saturday, the official said.

Meghalaya has so far registered 84414 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Director Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman War said the three deaths due to the viral disease were reported from the East Khasi Hills district which includes Meghalaya’s state capital Shillong is the most pandemic-hit district with 245 active COVID-19 cases and 998 related fatalities.
He said all the 20 COVID-19 cases detected were in the East Khasi Hills district, which also recorded 30 more cases of recovery from the viral infection.

Meanwhile, the number of active COVID-19 -19 cases in other districts of the state have been on a gradual decline with the West Khasi Hills having 18, followed by 15 in West Garo Hills, 11 in East Garo Hills, nine in West Jaintia Hills, eight in Ri-Bhoi and two in East Jaintia Hills, while the North Garo Hills, South Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and South West Khasi Hills have been consistently free of the virus over the past few weeks.

Of the 12,04,930 persons tested for COVID-19 in the state till Saturday afternoon, 11,20,516 persons have been tested negative for the virus, the official data stated.

On the other hand, 32,090 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 28,833 have been administered with the second dose, 96,971 front-line workers have got the first jab and 82,693 have taken the second shot, 10,31,533 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 6,87,947 citizens have been fully vaccinated with
the second dose across the state as on date, the health official said.
