Meghalaya records six COVID-19 related deaths, 243 new cases

Director Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War said the deaths due to COVID-19 related complications recorded on Wednesday were five in the East Khasi Hills district and one in the East Jaintia Hills district.

Shillong: The deaths of six COVID-19 patients, five of whom were not vaccinated against the virus increased the number of fatalities to 1,367 and 243 new cases of infection added up to 1,664 active cases, even as 262 more recoveries from the viral infection surged the number of recovered cases to 75,698 on Wednesday in Meghalaya, which has registered 78,729 confirmed cases so far.

Director Health Services (MI) Dr. Aman War said the deaths due to COVID-19 related complications recorded on Wednesday were five in the East Khasi Hills district and one in the East Jaintia Hills district.

He said the COVID-19 cases detected on Wednesday included 109 in East Khasi Hills district, 75 in West Khasi Hills district, 32 in Ri-Bhoi district, 10 in South West Khasi Hills district, seven each in West Garo Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district and one case each in East Jaintia Hills district, North Garo Hills district and South West Garo Hills district.

The number of active COVID-19 cases in the most pandemic-hit district of East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong has come down to 747, prompting the district administration to further relax restriction measures, albeit with strictures on people following the safety norms.
The other districts which have considerable number of active COVID-19 active cases are West Khasi Hills district with 313, West Jaintia Hills district with 174 and Ri-Bhoi district with 174, South West Khasi Hills district with 79, West Garo Hills district with 57 and East Jaintia Hills district with 24, while the rest of the districts have less than 20 active cases each, as per the latest official count.

Of the 10,23,753 persons tested for COVID-19 in the State, 9,45,024 came out negative for the virus till Wednesday.

As on date, 32,046 health care workers have been vaccinated with the first dose against COVID-19 and 26,514 have been administered with the second dose, 96,956 front-line workers have got the first jab and 73,371 have taken the second shot, 9,21,586 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 2,74,779 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose, health officials said.
