Meghalaya records eight COVID-19 deaths, 541 fresh cases

The COVID-19 related deaths recorded included four in East Khasi Hills district, two in Ri-Bhoi district, and one each in West Jaintia Hills district and West Khasi Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.

Shillong: Eight deaths due to COVID-19 related complications mounting the fatality figure to 1,048 and 541 new cases of infection taking the number of active cases up to 5,456 active cases, while 409 recoveries from the viral infection surged the number of recovered cases to 56,510 on Wednesday in the State, which has so far registered 63,014 confirmed cases.

The COVID-19 related deaths recorded included four in East Khasi Hills district, two in Ri-Bhoi district, and one each in West Jaintia Hills district and West Khasi Hills district, Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said.

The senior medical official said the new COVID-19 cases detected on Wednesday included 244 in East Khasi Hills district, 109 in West Garo Hills district, 62 in West Khasi Hills district, 45 in Ri-Bhoi district, 23 in South West Khasi Hills district, 21 in West Jaintia Hills district, 13 in East Jaintia Hills district, 10 in East Garo Hills district, six each in South Garo Hills district and North Garo Hills district and two cases in South West Garo Hills district.

The East Khasi Hills, which includes state capital Shillong is the most COVID-19 affected district with 2065 active cases, followed by West Garo Hills district with 925 active cases, Ri-Bhoi district with 604 active cases, West Jaintia Hills district with 580 active cases, West Khasi Hills district with 407 active cases and South West Khasi Hills district with 336 active cases, while the other five districts had less than 200 active cases each.

Till today, 8,27,680 persons have been tested for COVID-19 in the State, of whom 7,64,666 were tested negative for the virus, data issued by the National Health Mission, Meghalaya reflected.

Meanwhile, 31,710 health care workers received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19 and 22301 received the second dose, 97,191 front-line workers got the first jab and 36,817 took the second shot, 7,26,100 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 1,18,414 citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date, official data revealed.
