Shillong: In yet another instance of drug seizure, the Meghalaya police on Thursday seized 72 grams of heroin, 17 strips of banned Nitrazepam tablets, and arrested two drug traffickers.
Acting on specific inputs regarding the transportation of drugs from Assam’s Silchar towards Meghalaya’s capital Shillong, sleuths of the Anti Narcotic Task Force (ANTF) intercepted one vehicle bearing a West Bengal registration number at Umtyra checkpoint in East Jaintia Hills district.
Jagpal Singh Dhanoa, the district police chief of East Jaintia Hills, said the seizure was made after a 15-hour joint operation carried out by ANTF and Umtyra anti-infiltration personnel.
He said the two accused were thoroughly searched and six boxes of heroin expertly hidden below their garments were recovered from the two drug traffickers Heirtami Dkhar (29) and Rajen Pale (25).
Dhanoa said two phones along with the said vehicle were seized and a case registered at the Khliehriat PS under NDPS Act.
Further probe is on to ascertain the forward and backward links of the drug crime network. UNI RRK SSP
