Meghalaya police nab 3 drug traffickers, seize heroin

Shillong: As part of its drive against drugs, Meghalaya police on Sunday arrested three traffickers from two different locations and seized 12.62 grams of heroin.

A police official said two drug traffickers Cherak R. Marak and Tengsuang S. Sangma were arrested by sleuths of the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of West Garo Hills district from Tura Bazar based on specific information about their alleged dealing with narcotics substances.

During the search, Vivekanand Singh Rathore, the district police chief of West Garo Hills said, 8.19 grams of heroin from Marak and Sangma.

A Maruti Alto Car bearing registration no. ML-08G-6541, Rs. 14,230 in cash, two mobile handsets and other incriminating materials were also seized from their possession.

During interrogation, Rathore said the arrested persons revealed that the contraband was sent to them by Bryan Nongmor, a resident of Laitkor Rngi under Madanriting Police Station in East Khasi Hills district.

Accordingly, the information was shared with East Khasi Hills Police and in a subsequent house- search, the ANTF of East Khasi Hills recovered 4.43 grams of heroin, one mobile phone and other incriminating materials from his possession.

Meanwhile, police have registered a case under the NDPS Act against the trio in Tura police station and Madanriting police station respectively.
