Meghalaya logs 193 new COVID-19 cases, one death

Shillong: Meghalaya recorded 193 fresh COVID-19 cases taking the number of active cases up to 2,295 and one death due to the infection was registered mounting the number of fatalities to 1,323 on Friday.

On the other hand, 172 more recoveries were recorded surging the number of recovered cases to 72,886 on Friday in the State, which has so far registered 76,504 confirmed cases.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr Aman War said the COVID-19 related death was reported from the West Khasi Hills district, which is witnessing 309 active cases and 57 deaths so far.

Of the 193 fresh COVID-19 cases, the senior medical official said, 138 cases were detected in East Khasi Hills district, 13 in West Khasi Hills district, 11 in Ri-Bhoi district, eight in East Jaintia Hills district, seven in West Garo Hills district, six cases each in South West Khasi Hills district and West Jaintia Hills district, three in East Garo Hills district and one in North Garo Hills district.

No fresh case of COVID-19 infection was detected from South West Garo Hills district and South Garo Hills district.

The East Khasi Hills, which includes State capital Shillong is the most COVID-19 affected

district with 1,253 active cases and 915 deaths, followed by West Khasi Hills district with 309 active cases and 57 deaths, Ri-Bhoi district with 249 active cases and 76 deaths, West Jaintia Hills district with 189 active cases and 115 deaths, South West Khasi Hills district with 120 active cases and 14 deaths, West Garo Hills district with 78 active cases and 71 deaths, while the other districts had less than 50 active cases each as per the latest official count.

Of the 9,80,288 persons tested for COVID-19 in the State till Friday, 9,03,784 were tested

negative for the virus.

While 32,041 health care workers have received the first dose of the vaccine against COVID-19, 25,927 have been administered with the second dose, 96,950 front-line workers got the first shot and 68,855took the second shot, 9,00,928 persons from among the general public have been inoculated with the first dose and 2,18,492citizens have been fully vaccinated with the second dose across the State as on date, as per official information.
