Meghalaya CM urges voters to exercise their franchise in Manipur

The NPP is one of the constituents of the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Manipur, but is going solo and is believed to be giving BJP a run for its money.

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who is also the national supremo of the National People’s Party (NPP) on Monday urged electorates in Manipur to come out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.

“I call upon all the eligible voters of Manipur to come out in large numbers and vote in the 1st phase of the Manipur Assembly Elections today. I especially encourage the youth of Manipur to come forward and exercise their franchise,” Sangma tweeted after the polling kicked off.

The NPP is one of the constituents of the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in Manipur, but is going solo and is believed to be giving BJP a run for its money.

Poling is being held for 38 of the 60 assembly seats in the Northeastern state on Monday. Voting in the remaining 22 constituencies will take place in the second phase on March 5.
