Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who called on Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Wednesday, sought her intervention to enhance Central allocation of funds for Meghalaya for undertaking several infrastructure projects during the financial year 2022-2023.

Sangma, who also holds the finance portfolio, thanked the Union finance minister for expanding the Special Assistance to States for Capital Expenditure to Rs 1 lakh crore.

In a separate meeting with the Union Minister for External Affairs, S Jaishankar, the Chief Minister sought his support for the proposed set up of a state-of-the-art Ornamental Aqua Park with an aquarium for over 250 endemic fish species of the North East in Meghalaya with technical collaboration with the United Arab Emirates.

Sangma, during his meeting today with the Union minister for Minority Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, thanked the latter for accepting the proposal of the State government to set up a unique Medical Skill Development Centre in Meghalaya and invited him for the foundation laying function of the project.
