”Mann Ki Baat’ evokes mixed response in Meghalaya

Shillong: The 100th episode of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann ki Baat’ talk over the All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan Kendra (DDK) on Sunday drew listeners from across Meghalaya with the regional versions of the talk in the indigenous languages aired by the national media.

In fact Prime Minister Modi had on April 28 inaugurated 91 new 100W FM (Frequency Modulation) transmitters across the country, including Community Radio Stations (CRSs) in Meghalaya’s Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills and Williamnagar, West Garo Hills district.

Meanwhile, the 100th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was live screened by Prasar Bharati, the autonomous body of the Union ministry of information and broadcasting in collaboration with Raj Bhavan, Shillong on Sunday with Governor Phagu Chauhan saying that the programme has deepened the connect between the Prime Minister and the citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that since its launch in October 2014, the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme has been a transformative force in highlighting the collective strengths of the people of India. “The programme has showcased the life journeys of grassroots level achievers who have brought a positive change in the lives of others,” he said.

“Moreover, it has deepened the connection between Prime Minister Modi and the citizens, inspiring them to become agents of change in the development of the nation,” Chauhan noted.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the PM for referring to the specialties of the North East in his popular programme.

“The Northeastern region, especially Meghalaya, seems to have found a place of pride in the Mann Ki Baat programme. The Prime Minister had mentioned the Northeast and Meghalaya on several occasions since the inception,” Chauhan said.

Referring to Asia’s cleanest village, Mawlynnong, the crystal clear Umngot River, the whistling tunes of the Kongthong village, and the Cherry Blossom Festival, which have all found mention on the Prime Minister’s Twitter handle and ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programmes, the Governor stated that the Northeastern region, especially Meghalaya, have found a special place of pride in the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme.
