Manipur’s Film Producer John Sharma dies, Film Society mourns

A resident of Keishampat Keisham Leikai, he was the nephew of film pioneer Gurumayum Narayan Sharma. He is survived by his wife and two kids.

Imphal: Manipur’s popular film producer and cameraman Guruaribam John Sharma died in Delhi on Tuesday where he was undergoing treatment for Kidney ailment.

A resident of Keishampat Keisham Leikai, he was the nephew of film pioneer Gurumayum Narayan Sharma. He is survived by his wife and two kids.

Manipur State Film Development Society, MSFDS, expressed its sincere condolences and said in his sad demise, Manipuri Cinme has lost a dedicated film practitioner. MSFDS shared the grief of the bereaved family, said a statement issued by its secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum.

John produced and was the cinema photographer of the film – “Saklon Amada” (2010) under the NS films banner. The film received the best film award in the SS Manifa Film award.

As a mark of respect and homage to the departed film personality, a candlelight memorial was observed at the Manipuri Cinema Memorial at MSFDS complex at Palace gate.
