Manipur: Six people nabbed for not returning rented cars

The accused mortgaged the cars to other people to get quick money by producing fake Aadhar cards and forging RCs with the same particulars as the original owner of the vehicle

Imphal: Manipur police, with the help of a GPS locator, tracked down missing cars and arrested six persons under Lamsang police station on Wednesday on charges of forgery and cheating with car dealers in the state.

The arrested persons rented different cars from a car rental service, without returning the rented car on the agreed-upon stipulated time, a statement by the Manipur police department said.

The six persons have been identified as Maibam Deepu Meitei, 24; Takhellambam Ajit Meitei, 31; Ingudam Robinnganba Meitei, 28; Lairenmayum Shantikumar Singh, 28; Konsam Raju Singh, 28, and Rajkumar Dumba, 35.

The accused mortgaged the cars to other people to get quick money by producing fake Aadhar cards and forging RCs with the same particulars as the original owner of the vehicle, it said. 

The press note also advised the general public not to rent out vehicles without verifying the complete identity of a person and not to give money for mortgaging vehicles without complete documents and verification of documents such as a RC, an Aadhar card, etc.
