Tengnoupal:  The Assam Rifles conducted a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at Tengnoupal in the Tengnoupal district on 17 June 2026 to pay rich tributes to Lance Naik Hanuman Ram, who made the supreme sacrifice during Operation Rakshak in Jammu and Kashmir. The ceremony was conducted with full military honours to commemorate the extraordinary valour, courage and selfless devotion to duty displayed by the brave soldier exactly thirty-one years ago while combating anti-national elements.

A total of forty-five officials and troops gathered at the memorial to pay homage to the fallen hero and reaffirm their commitment to national security. On 17 June 1995, during a critical cordon and search operation at Lal Chowk in Srinagar, Lance Naik Hanuman Ram served as the lead scout of the Quick Reaction Team. When hidden militants opened indiscriminate fire on the search party, he instinctively shielded his Commanding Officer with complete disregard for his personal safety. Despite sustaining a fatal gunshot wound to his chest, he continued to engage the terrorists with exemplary composure until his last breath. The senior official highlighted that such ultimate sacrifices continue to inspire generations of personnel, serving as a permanent guiding force in the service of the nation.
