Manipur: Sensitization programme on electoral literacy held

Speaking on the occasion, DEO/DC Bishnupur L. Bikram Singh encouraged the young voters to exercise their voting rights judiciously while cautioning against unethical voting as it has a huge negative impact on the national building process.

Bishnupur:  In connection with the ensuing State Assembly Election 2022, S. Kula Women’s College, Nambol, under the aegis of the District Election Office, Bishnupur Monday organized a one-day electoral literacy program at the Conference Hall of the college. The program was organized as part of SVEEP activity to encourage and create awareness among young voters, 18-21 age groups on voting rights and ethical voting. 

Speaking on the occasion, DEO/DC Bishnupur L. Bikram Singh encouraged the young voters to exercise their voting rights judiciously while cautioning against unethical voting as it has a huge negative impact on the national building process. Emphasizing the value of every single vote, Shri L Bikram appealed to all eligible young voters who comprise 7.4% of the electors in the district, to exercise their voting rights in the upcoming election.

As part of the function, a district-level quiz contest, as well as a debating competition, was also conducted on electoral literacy. Later, all the participants of the function took the national voters to pledge.

W. Robindro Singh, Principal, S. Kula Women’s College, H. Bobby Sharma, ADM Bishnupur and Dr. Salam Dhanachandra Singh, SVEEP Nodal Officer Bishnupur also attended the function as special guests.

Later, District Election Officer L. Bikram chaired an election preparedness review meeting attended by ROs and Nodal Officers of the district. Ejaj Hassan briefed the DEO through powerpoint on election preparedness covering status of electoral rolls, polling station AMF status, AEP for Persons with Disabilities, polling officials and vehicles, MCC and Covid management among others.
