Manipur Police’s 130th Raising Day held

Speaking on the occasion, N. Biren Singh expressed his best wishes to all officials of the Manipur Police Department and appreciated the State Forces for their dedicated and disciplined services towards maintaining law and order and the welfare of the public at large.

Imphal: The State celebrated the 130th Raising Day of Manipur Police at the Parade Ground of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Tuesday with Chief Minister N. Biren Singh as chief guest of the celebration. Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, DGP and other top police officials also attended the function.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister took salute from 16 march-past contingents consisting of Combined Manipur Rifles Male Contingents, Combined Indian Reserve Battalion Male Contingent No.1, Combined Indian Reserve Battalion Male Contingent No. 2, Civil Police Imphal West (Male), Civil Police Imphal East (Male), Civil Police Bishnupur Male, Combined Civil Police Male, Combined Civil Police Male Contingent Hill District No. 1, Combined Civil Police Male Contingent Hill District No. 2, Combined Commando Contingent, 9th Indian Reserve (Mahila) Battalion Contingents, Combined Civil Police Imphal East and Imphal West Female Contingents, Home Guard Male Contingent, Combined VDF Male Contingent, Traffic Police Women Contingent and Manipur Police Dog Squad Imphal East & Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, N. Biren Singh expressed his best wishes to all officials of the Manipur Police Department and appreciated the State Forces for their dedicated and disciplined services towards maintaining law and order and the welfare of the public at large. 

He continued that all sections of people should respect and honour police personnel as the latter had always been rendering services as and when needed in every circumstance. Stating that the law and order of the State had considerably improved with the efficient functioning of the Police Department, he added that the public could now feel free and safe while moving anywhere across the State.

Mentioning the role of police in the successful implementation of the War against Drugs campaign of the State Government, the Chief Minister maintained that the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) of Manipur Police had been functioning with much effort to completely root out the drug menace in the State. The Government wouldn’t compromise any anti-national elements which would hinder the development of the State and would take all necessary actions according to the law of the land, he added.

N. Biren further stressed the need to enforce strict traffic rules as the State had witnessed many road accidents due to negligent driving. He instructed the concerned authorities to start taking up actions against traffic rule violators. He also urged the Police Department to be stricter, within the ambit of relevant law, while dealing with any lawbreakers citing its need in making our society a disciplined one.

Stating that Home Minister Amit Shah under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had directed all the State to construct Memorial Parks for Police recognizing the role played by police in nation-building and maintaining law and order, N. Biren informed that Manipur Police Memorial Park, being constructed at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Complex to honour the supreme sacrifices of Manipur Police was nearing completion and the same would be inaugurated soon by the Prime Minister or Home Minister on their likely visit to the State.  The Chief Minister also appreciated the contribution made by Manipur Police personnel during the Government’s fight against COVID-19 and any other crucial time.

Delivering his speech, Director General of Police, Manipur L.M. Khaute stated that Manipur Police had always played a commendable role in maintaining law and order in the State. He informed that Manipur Police along with the Indian Army and Paramilitary forces had conducted many counter-insurgency operations and area domination and had helped bring certain members of underground organizations into the national mainstream.

The security environment of the State had now improved considerably, he added and continued that 263 extremists had been arrested and 13 had been neutralized, arms and ammunition consisting of 149 weapons, 2,783 assaulted ammunitions, 75 hand grenades, 398 detonators, 3 kg explosive substances and other explosive materials among others were recovered. Apart from this, a large number of drugs had also been captured consisting of 36 kg of heroin, 841 kg of ganja, 479 kg of opium, 272 kg of brown sugar, around 9 lakh WY tablets, 18,710 SP capsules and more than 12,000 bottles of cough syrup among others, he further added.

He also appreciated the Chief Minister for his continuous guidance and support provided to the Police Department which had made certain achievements of the Department possible.

The Chief Minister also distributed awards, trophies and commendations to police officers on the occasion. Shri T. Lalboi Haokip, MPS, Commandant, 7th Battalion Manipur Rifles received DGP Running Trophy for the Best Battalion 2021 with a cash reward of Rs. 15,000 and a DGP Commendation Certificate, Dr Rashini Yengkhom, MPS, Commandant, 8th Indian Reserve Battalion received Second Best Battalion 2021 with Rs. 10,000 cash and a DGP Commendation Certificate and Shri Thingnam Deshorjit, MPS, Deputy Commandant, 8th Battalion Manipur Rifles received Third Best Battalion 2021 consisting of a cash reward of Rs. 5,000 and a DGP Commendation Certificate.

Inspector Kangjam Santosh Singh, Officer-in-charge, Khongjom Police Station received a cash reward of Rs. 15,000 and a commendation Certificate for Best Police Station 2021, Inspector Laishram Khogen Singh, Officer-in-charge, Jiribam Police Station received a cash reward of Rs. 10,000 and a commendation certificate for Second Best Police Station 2021 and Inspector Maibam Sudhirkumar Meitei Officer-in-charge, City Police Station received a cash reward of Rs. 5,000 and a commendation certificate. While Inspector Hopeson Chiphang, Officer-in-charge, Shangshak Police Station, Ukhrul District received the Best Police Officer 2021 award with a cash reward of Rs. 5,000 and a commendation certificate.

The DGP Commendation Roll and Disc for different units were received by IGP (Administration) I.K. Muivah, IGP (Zone-III) Lunsieh Kipgen, IGP (Zone-I and Zone-II) K. Jayanta Singh, IGP (Intelligence) K. Radhashyam Singh, and Elangbam Priyokumar Singh, IGP (AP/Ops).

On this occasion, the Chief Minister released a souvenir highlighting the various achievements of the Manipur Police Department in the last year.
