Imphal: BJP leader and MLA Sagolband Assembly constituency, Rajkumar Imo Singh Saturday urged the Central government to take stringent action against officers of central security forces who were not able to protect civilians from killing by Kuki militants.
The BJP lawmaker didn’t mention the particular incident of the killing, but appeared to be the gunning down of three persons including a father-son duo by heavily armed suspected Kuki militants at Kwakta village under Bishnupur district during the wee hours of Saturday.
After killing the trio inside their own houses, the militants slashed their bodies with swords, police said.
Questioning the role of the security forces, Rajkumar Imo Singh, who is also the son-in-law of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, said despite the presence of a massive number of paramilitary personnel, the militants from other districts came to the village and brutally killed the three people.
Imo also urged the Ministry of Home Affairs to either remove or replace the units on duty and take action against the officers on duty.
The BJP leader also said the Central government needed to take strict action against insurgent groups who have violated all ground rules and a detailed investigation regarding the cross-border infiltration and non-stop supply of arms and ammunition to fight the state and Central security forces.
Meanwhile, launching a scathing attack on the Central government, former Manipur police officer Brinda Thounaojam Saturday said that Manipur will never forgive India for its misdeed in the state.
“21 September 1949, the King of Manipur was forced to sign the Merger Agreement of Manipur with India. This treaty is a long-standing issue. What have we become under India? Manipur will never forgive you, India,” Brinda, who returned her gallantry award after a court acquitted BJP leader and former chairman of Chandel Autonomous District Council (ADC) Lhukhsei Zou and six others in a multi-crore drug seizure case in 2020, said.
On the other hand, a fierce gun battle took place between a combined force of Manipur police and village volunteers and Kuki militants at Tharoi Lok near Terakhongsangbi village under Bishnupur district on Saturday.
Locals said the gun battles started early Saturday morning after Kuki militants shot dead three civilians at their own homes.
Unconfirmed reports said that six people including a policeman, Paonam Mobi, sustained bullet injuries, till the report was filed.
