Manipur Govt to constitute Cabinet Sub-Committee to address Rehabilitation of IDPs

Imphal: The Biren Government has announced the formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to address the rehabilitation needs of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Manipur. Under Rule 13 of the Rules of Business of the Government of Manipur, this Sub-Committee will oversee the resettlement efforts necessitated by the ongoing crisis.

Minister of Works and YAS, K. Govindas Singh, will chair the Sub-Committee. Other members include Minister of Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management, Awangbow Newmai; Minister of Medical Health & FW and IPR, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh; and Minister of A.H. & Vety. and Transport, Khashim Vashum. 

Commissioner-cum-Home, Gyanprakash Huirem (IAS), will serve as the Member Secretary, with the Committee reporting directly to the Chief Minister.

The Sub-Committee’s responsibilities include identifying IDPs’ grievances in relief camps, assessing their needs, supervising resettlement and rehabilitation measures, and identifying suitable land for temporary relocation.

Additionally, the Cabinet has directed Deputy Commissioners to complete flood damage assessments within a week. Immediate relief of Rs. 10,000 per flood-affected family has been approved.

Furthermore, the Cabinet has endorsed the joint conduct of local elections for ADC, Panchayats, and Municipalities around September 2024. The views of HAC regarding ADC elections will also be sought.
