Manipur Governor witnesses nationwide outreach program

 It may be noted that the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment has the mandate to provide opportunities for educational, economic, and social empowerment as well as rehabilitation of people from the socially disadvantaged and marginalized sections of society.

Imphal: The Governor of Manipur, Anusuiya Uikey virtually witnessed a programme marking nationwide outreach for credit support to entrepreneurs from disadvantaged sections on Wednesday at the Conference Hall of Raj Bhavan, Imphal along with the Officers and staff of Raj Bhavan and CRPF. The programme was attended by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi via video conferencing.

 It may be noted that the Department of Social Justice & Empowerment has the mandate to provide opportunities for educational, economic, and social empowerment as well as rehabilitation of people from the socially disadvantaged and marginalized sections of society.

As a part of this mandate, this Department organized a nationwide outreach programme, in hybrid mode, with beneficiaries of different schemes, but the focus is on credit support to entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the Ministry also provides financial assistance through concessional (interest rate) loans, emphasizing the empowerment of the marginalized sections.

Governor also witnessed the virtual launch of the ‘Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan and Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan’ (PM-SURAJ) national portal which was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi today through video conferencing to ensure a hassle-free and seamless mechanism for soft credit to marginalised sections and integrated portal along with releasing credit support to 1 lakh entrepreneurs of marginalised sections ensuring a silent social transformation in the making and enabling them to start their ventures.

The credit support is provided to eligible persons at interest rates ranging from 3.5% to 9% p.a. through the State Channel Partners including Banks, NBFC-MFIs and other Organizations. 

During the launch program, the Prime Minister interacted with beneficiaries of various government schemes that target marginalised groups, including scheduled castes, backward classes, and sanitation workers. He also addressed the participants, highlighting the government’s commitment to uplifting disadvantaged sections of society.
