Manipur Governor hails Assam Rifles for curbing drug menace in State

While recalling the tragic incident that killed Colonel Viplab Triphathy, Commanding Officer of 46th Assam Rifles along with his family and seven Jawans, La. Ganesan said his sacrifice indeed inspired all ranks in the Army.

Imphal: Manipur Governor La Ganesan said Assam Rifles is taking a tremendous role in curbing drug menace in the State. He was speaking at the Investiture Ceremony held today at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal. 

The Governor said it is a matter of great satisfaction to know that IG, AR (South) recovered drugs of approximately Rs. 1800 crores. He said Assam Rifles is very popular particularly in the North East and therefore, is now-a-days popularly known as “Sentinels of North East”. While recalling the tragic incident that killed Colonel Viplab Triphathy, Commanding Officer of 46th Assam Rifles along with his family and seven Jawans, La. Ganesan said his sacrifice indeed inspired all ranks in the Army.

La. Ganesan further said that security forces have dedicated contributions to maintain law and order situation as well as protecting our country at different situations and places. Those who are receiving these honours will find ways of serving the nation and communities. Governor also thanked the officers and expressed confidence that they will leave no stone unturned to discharge their valuable responsibilities to uphold the dignity and sovereignty of our Nation. 

The Governor handed over four Citations to Colonel Aditya Deo, Commandant of 16th Assam Rifles, Colonel J. Narayanan, SM, Commandant of 20th Assam Rifles, Colonel Tejas B Candade, SM, Commandant of 24th Assam Rifles and Colonel Vikas Saha, Commandant of 25th Assam Rifles respectively and one appreciation letter to IG, AR (South) Major General Alok Naresh.

DGP Manipur P. Doungel, Addl. Chief Secretaries M.H. Khan and Shri P. Vaiphei attended among others in the ceremony.
