Imphal: Thoubal district administration on Thursday promulgated prohibitory orders to control poll violence at Heirok in Thoubal district.
District Magistrate, Thoubal, A Subhas issued an order stating that curfew has been imposed in the entire area of Heirok village from Thursday until further notification.
The order said there is every likelihood of breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility at Heirok village area, thereby endangering human lives and properties in Heirok area.
It was added that it has become expedient to issue prohibitory orders for prevention of breach of peace, disturbances to public tranquility and danger to human lives and properties and to prevent riot or affray, the order mentioned.
The order further said, “There is an emergency and circumstances which do not permit the serving of notice upon the public in due time, and hence, this order is passed ex-parte under Section 144 CrPC of 1973 and is directed to the public in general.”
Poll related violence had been reported in Heirok repeatedly resulting in death of one person and loss of property and clashes between supporters of different candidates.
