Imphal: The CPI (M) Manipur state committee Tuesday discussed the ensuing State Assembly Elections expected to be held in 2022.

The defeat of BJP and its allies in the recent elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal was due to the dictatorial style of functioning of the government at the centre led by Narendra Modi, said Kshetrimayum Santa, General Secretary CPM Manipur.

The Modi government also failed to devolve power to the states, implemented communal politics, passed laws against employees and farmers, he said. Civil and human rights were violated and Covid 19 pandemic was not properly handled, he said.

Snooping of journalists, politicians, citizens using Pegasus and corruption in procuring arms and ammunition were the main reasons for the debacle in the elections, he said. The Left, secular and like
minded democratic parties will fight together by forming an alliance in the next elections he said.

The meeting today decided to form a grand alliance in Manipur and other states during the 2022 elections. The State Secretariat was assigned the task of forming the alliance, he said.
