Manipur cops escape after miscreants tried to kidnap in Moreh

 The incident happened when the two police personnel were going in plain clothes to purchase some essential items including medicines from Moreh Gate No. 2 and Nepali Basti diversion.

Imphal: Amidst sporadic incidents of firing and congregation of unruly mob during the last 24 hours, suspected armed militants Wednesday tried to kidnap two Manipur police personnel in Moreh, a Kuki-dominated town along the Myanmar border

 The incident happened when the two police personnel were going in plain clothes to purchase some essential items including medicines from Moreh Gate No. 2 and Nepali Basti diversion.

After a brief scuffle, the police personnel escaped to Moreh police station. The suspected armed miscreants also escaped from the area after firing two-three rounds in the air.

Immediately after the incident central security forces and district police Tengnoupal launched combing operations in suspected areas, however, the armed miscreants fled from the area swiftly. No casualty  is reported in the incident, a statement of Manipur police department said. 

Meanwhile, it’s reported that Kuki people in Kangpokpi district have agreed to compensate around Rs 20 lakh for a Liangmai house whose militants had burnt a house at Kanto Sabal near Leimakhong, which houses the Army headquarters in Manipur,  early this month.
