Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday inaugurated two bridges constructed over Imphal River at Ngathem Mapa and Achanbigei Awang Leikai in Imphal East district.

Both the bridges were at the CM’s Heingang Assembly Constituency.

The bridges were constructed by the Manipur State Rural Road Development Agency under PMGSY scheme. The bridge at Ngathem Mapa having a length of 64 metres was constructed at a cost of Rs. 720.05 lakhs while the bridge at Achanbigei Awang Leikai worth Rs. 712.23 lakhs has the length of 72 metres. Construction of both the bridges began on March 7, 2019 and completed on November 22, 2021.

The Chief Minister pointed out that Imphal River passes through Heingang AC covering a long stretch of around 17 km. However, there was no enough number of bridges earlier.

The Government decided to construct these concrete bridges at strategic points for the convenience of the public, he added.

He further informed that construction of different infrastructure projects across the State, including those whose foundation stone were laid by the Prime Minister, would continue as usual even during the enforcement of Election Model Code of Conduct.

Biren said that the Government has also set a target to provide tap water to 80 per cent of the total households of the State.

Manipur government will fight any legal case on implementation of ILPS in Manipur, the Chief Minister said.

Regarding AFSPA, Biren stated the State Government and the Centre were assessing the situation.
