Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh hosted an interaction program on Monday with young individuals who have undergone training in the hospitality sector under the ‘Hunar Se Rozgar Scheme’ and perfumery at Hindu College, Delhi. The event took place at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and was organized by the Tourism Department and the Textiles, Commerce, and Industries Department of the Government of Manipur.

Under the Ministry of Tourism’s Hunar Se Rozgar Scheme, around 400 youth have either completed or are still undergoing training. Of these, 169 have secured employment in key cities, with 78 belonging to the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) category. Additionally, 30 youth, including 15 IDPs, participated in a three-week perfumery training program at Hindu College, Delhi.

Several of the trained youth from various districts, who have secured job placements, shared their experiences and expressed gratitude to the Chief Minister and the state government for the initiatives.

During his address, Chief Minister N. Biren Singh commended the Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and other officials for their dedication in implementing these training programs. He reflected on the emotional significance of interacting with youth from different communities following the state’s crisis over the past year and a half, describing the moment as a new beginning for Manipur’s development, with youth at its centre.

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the people of Manipur during the crisis but emphasized the importance of resilience and unity. The Chief Minister also highlighted the progress of those affected, many of whom are now returning to their homes. He urged the people to focus on peace, healing, and unity rather than placing blame on each other.

In a gesture of support, Singh announced financial assistance of Rs. 50,000 as seed money for the youth who completed the perfumery training. He added that further support could be accessed through the ‘One Family One Livelihood’ Scheme or Start-Up programs, depending on their progress.

Additionally, the state government will provide one-time financial assistance of Rs. 5000 to help trained youth settle into new jobs across different cities. He also mentioned that a special flight would be arranged for those placed in jobs in various cities, and he would personally see them off at the airport.

The Chief Minister urged the youth to increase their general knowledge, especially about welfare schemes, to boost their confidence. He also shared details about the government’s efforts to support those in relief camps and expressed his commitment to extend training programs to all districts, with a special focus on youth residing in such camps.

In his concluding remarks, the Chief Minister called for an end to violence and stressed the importance of solving problems through peaceful means. He encouraged the youth to stay grounded and not let emotions sway them, as they represent the future of Manipur.

The event was attended by Ministers, MLAs, senior government officials, Deputy Commissioners, officials from the Tourism Department, and trained youth.

Several Deputy Commissioners and youth from Tamenglong, Churachandpur, Senapati, Ukhrul, and Kangpokpi districts also participated through video conferencing. During the interaction, the DCs discussed livelihood programs and initiatives implemented in their respective districts.
